New Member of the Tourism Team!
Amy Lieberman joined the Otsego County Tourism Program as tourism specialist on May 15. Amy has strong writing, editing and organizational skills. She’s mastered the county’s vendor claim system, our tourism website content management system, and other day-to-day office routines. She’s a great asset and will be “out-and-about” with me, attending meetings, trade shows and learning more about our tourism offerings and you – our partners who make it all come together for memorable vacations in our area. Amy plays in the Tremperskill Boys Band – bass and mandolin! So, we have a musician amongst us!
New Collateral Materials
Our new lure piece (pictured above) and rack card were published in early May. The rack card is distributed at NYS’s busiest information centers, Sloatsburg and Plattekill, just north of New York City. They will also be distributed at the NYS Fair in Syracuse later in the summer. The lure piece is mailed out to visitors who request information on Otsego County resultant from our advertising – so far, we’ve sent out over 8,000 copies – and we’ve only just begun.
Familiarization Tours
We’ve been fortunate to host several FAMs this spring, for domestic travel writers and international receptive operators. Thanks very much to the partners who have “modified” tours and helped me keep very tight schedules to fit brief time-frames. In addition, CBS6 Albany did a taping for a “Road Trips” segment based in the Cooperstown area to be aired in July.
Regional Programs
- CNY Fresh is a program created by the Central New York Vacation Region, plus two counties. Funded by a $270,000 grant from the Comprehensive Funding Application process (CFA), the program is intended to promote our agricultural heritage and local products – farmers’ markets, ag-themed trails and visitor-ready farms. We will be in touch with ag partners in the near future to solicit information and commitments. We’re continuing to build our databases for a 2014 launch of the program.
- Brew Central, another project of the Central New York Vacation Region, has taken off like gangbusters. Designed to showcase our hop-heritage, craft breweries and brew-pubs, we acquired more than 400 Facebook fans in less than two weeks – and we haven’t even started paid advertising!
- Path Through History meetings continue this month to promote the Revolutionary War Heritage of the Mohawk Valley REDC. Leigh Eckmair, historian/archivist at the Gilbertsville Free Library, has been extremely helpful representing Otsego County in this venture.
